NOT ACTIVE – Associate Director – Data Infrastructure & Management (Computational Biology)- Basic salary, 15% bonus + generous benefits package

You’ve shown you have the soft skills to grow your own team. All you need is the right environment to do it.

A culture that encourages personal development. Somewhere you can learn to be a better leader.

An organisation that recognises the true value of research data.

A place where you have a positive mission: helping to create innovative new treatments and medicines.

This is that environment.

Key benefits include:

  • You’ll join a progressive pharmaceutical business whose data-driven approach to drug discovery is helping them to tackle some of the biggest challenges in global medicine.
  • You’ll be given the trust and support you need to shape your own team to accelerate the use of omics data, at scale, for drug discovery.
  • You’ll be directly impacting disease monitoring and drug development, with the potential to help millions of patients.
  • It’s an influential and responsible role in an innovative, ambitious global department – a chance to promote a transition to a truly ‘data-first’ culture.

What ‘s the role:

You’ll lead and develop the company’s four-strong Computational Biology Data Infrastructure team, part of their highly reputed research, discovery, and innovation function. The team is made up of Data Engineers, Data Stewards, and Curators.

Initially, you’ll support your team to develop a deep understanding of customers’ needs – bioinformaticians working on drug discovery projects – and build a firm data foundation for them using FAIR principles and focused on omics data.

Looking forward, you’ll contribute to the future roadmap for data infrastructure and governance, application development, and software licensing, and drive its implementation. You’ll also have the chance to create a global collaboration model, linking data and infrastructure teams across the company.

Overall, you’ll have the satisfaction of helping to grow a global department and advancing the way the business uses omics data. Ultimately, that will lead to new medical discoveries and improved outcomes for patients.

What you can add:

This could be a step up for someone with the soft skills and appetite to learn to succeed in a team leadership role. Or perhaps you’ve already proven your managerial skills, but you’re looking for a greater sense of purpose at work. As a guide, we’re looking for as many as possible of the following:

  • Experience in computational biology and associated data assets.
  • Success in leading activities and initiatives – possibly you’ve worked alongside other leads on large projects/programmes of work.
  • You’ll be making key day-to-day decisions so you must be able to think strategically and handle different operational demands.
  • A proven ability to support scientific customers – in this case, bioinformaticians in the company’s genomics research lab.
  • FAIR experience – or a firm grasp of data management, data integration, data accessibility, linked data and reusability.
  • Exposure to semantic web technologies, knowledge graphs or building ontologies.
