Challenge

The Lead Data Scientist (LDS) at one of the world’s leading pharmaceutical firms already had a team in place.

They were working on a product to provide next generation genome analysis for disease discovery and treatment using the best software currently available on the market. Their plan was to take the technology to the next level for speed and usability.

However, the LDS had identified a gap in the team’s skill set in the area of bioinformatics and algorithm knowledge. They realised they needed to quickly recruit a contractor to efficiently bridge the gap and push the project forward.

Action

DST leveraged their extensive network in life sciences to quickly identify an individual with the right strengths and skillsets.

Within 48 hours, we interviewed ten candidates and submitted the best three to the Hiring Manager.

Impact

  • We found a candidate who had a Phd in Epidemiology, with a specialism in rare genomic variants. This specialism was exactly what the client needed to ensure that the freelancer could hit the ground running quickly.
  • The successful candidate then went on to have their contract extended twice.
  • The Hiring Manager was so happy with the candidate’s work that he offered a pay increase alongside the extensions.
