“Backend” needn’t mean “background”. In this newly created role, you’ll be contributing your ideas to help a fast-growing, well-funded medical start-up get the best out of a vast range of medical and marketing data. In doing so, you’ll have a direct impact on products designed to improve healthcare access for millions of Europeans.

What’s the job?

This is a new role in a recently created tech team, working alongside two other developers, a product owner and a QA. You’ll be working on platforms that will give millions of patients fast and convenient digital access to diagnosis and medicines.

It’s a refreshingly wide-ranging job. One day, you’ll be building and maintaining secure data pipelines to support customer segmentation and medical research. The next, shaping the structure of data models or sharpening data compliance.

You’ll be helping to leverage a vast amount of medical and marketing data to directly impact products – for example writing microservices that provide real-time personalised recommendations for patients. Yes, this is a backend role but you’ll never be stuck in the background.

What you can add:

We’re open minded about where you’re working now. It’s likely that your CV includes:

• Practical experience in backend engineering, preferably in a start-up, e-commerce or a similarly dynamic environment.
• Experience of developing micro services and RESTful APIs.
• A good understanding of relational databases and big data technologies (e.g. Spark, BigQuery).
• Proficiency in Python, JavaScript, SQL.
• Knowledge of Java or Scala is a plus.
